Customising Search & Shortcuts

A common question from park staff: “Can we change what Siri says for our park?” or, “Can our content team make search understand more of what guests actually ask?” This article draws a clear line between what a content team can already change today, and what’s fixed in the app itself.

What a content team can change, without a development request

    • Whether a content type is available at all. Each content type’s Siri and Spotlight availability is a per-park switch — see Multiple Parks, Guest Restrictions & Feature Toggles.
    • How well an FAQ matches what a guest actually says. Every FAQ can have alternate phrasings added in the CMS, on top of its main title. For example, an FAQ titled “Swimming Pool Opening Times” can also be tagged with “pool hours” and “when’s the pool open” — Siri and Spotlight will match on any of them.
    • An item’s search keywords. Tags and categories set in the CMS on any place, event, route, offer or home for sale directly control what search terms surface it — both in Spotlight and when a guest searches by voice. They’re matched by their proper titles, so guests can search the same words they see in the app.
    • What each section is called. A park’s own section names (for example “Experiences” or “Walks & Trails”) are taken from the app’s navigation in the CMS, and guests can say or type them to search that section. Nothing needs setting up separately.
    • Holding an item back. Any individual FAQ, event, place, route, offer or home for sale can be kept out of Siri, Spotlight and Shortcuts with a flag in the CMS, while staying visible in the app. Homes marked as sold are left out automatically.
    • The facts Siri can answer questions with. Opening times, phone numbers, the dog-friendly setting, event dates and locations are all read straight from the CMS — see Asking Siri a Question.
    • Any item’s title, description, and image. These feed straight into both the search result shown and the text used to match it — editing them in the CMS changes both at once.

What’s fixed in the app today

The following would need a development request to change — a holiday park currently has nothing different from any other on these points:

    • The exact Siri phrases, shortcut titles, and icons. Every holiday park uses the identical set — only the app’s own name substitutes into each phrase. The five apps that aren’t holiday parks (Acresfield Spa, Dorchester, Tozers, Southwest Awards and Stables) each have their own smaller set with their own wording, titles and icons; changing those, or giving another app its own, needs a development request.
    • What each search result shows. The fields and layout of a search result are fixed per content type:
      • FAQ: question, answer text, category tag
      • Events: image, title, next date/time, availability
      • Places: image, title, up to 2 categories
      • Offers: image, title, an “offer” badge
      • Home Sales: image, title, price
      • Welcome Pack: image, title, up to 2 categories
      • Routes: image, difficulty, title, length, duration
      • My Booking: image, reference, unit, location, dates, balance due
    • The order results appear in when several types match. See Spotlight Search for the ranking order — it’s the same for every park.
    • How the AI summary is produced. It’s generated automatically on a guest’s own device the first time they view a record — it isn’t a field a content editor sets, so there’s nothing to configure here directly. A content team can still influence it indirectly, since it’s built from that item’s title and description. It helps search match an item; it isn’t what Siri says out loud (see How Siri’s Spoken Replies Are Built).
    • The words Siri understands in a search. Phrases like “this weekend”, “things to do” and question wording are built-in English word lists. They can’t be changed per park, and on an app set to another language searches still work but aren’t interpreted in the same way.
